[J] Are you fine folks familiar with our song “The Gleeman Ukulele and Monster Factory Company Theme Song”? If not, I’ll pretend as though there is some form of correlation between paragraph spacing and the time it will take you to look it up on The Kamikaze Snowcast and listen to it.
…
Good, now that we’re up to speed, I don’t think it’s too early to let you folks in on the fact that Paul and I are working on a board game based on the world in which the song inhabits. To be brief, it’s a game with semi-customizable player characters who must survive a night locked in the Factory with an escaped monster. It draws inspiration from great games like Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, Pandemic, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Arkham Horror, and many others.
We really don’t have any big (or specific) plans for the game apart from developing and testing it now, and seeing if it’s something worth pursuing on a greater scale. However, we’re very excited to play it after we create a mock-up and see how it works, and are hoping to at least make it available as a “download and print it yourself” ordeal.
So, why am I telling you this? Well, quite awhile ago we put out an ill-conceived and barely-supported “contest” to put yourself in the shoes of a Gleeman Factory worker and design a monster. Like so many things, it was met with great indifference and fell to the way-side. HOWEVER we are going to revive the contest in the near future, with the slightly-more tangible prize of having your monster represented in the game!
We’ll get more details out there as we move forward with this, but there’s no time like the present to start getting psyched up and brainstorming monster ideas!
